Mayhaps it has been a decade since I last started my career as a police officer and I, of course, regret that career completely and utterly.
The folks I 'worked'- or rather, tagged along with ain't By-The-Book cops as I wish they would have been. They are too violent and... that ain't a good trait for crime-cleaning folks, of course. We ain't vigilantes. We don't imploy violence that often like those bloodthirsty bounty hunters do. We ain't suppose to murder for a minor crime.
Even I'm a bit surprised there are people that don't share my opinion. And even more surprisingly, turns out a police officer can be punished for thinkin' so... that's what happened to me.
Parolpley City have always been a ragged place, full of crimes- think of a trash can but with mouses inside it that tears you apart the moment you step in. That's the entire city. Yes, this is technically my opinion, but I think anyone with a shred of sanity would call that a fact. I've been through the experience personally. Too personally for my comfort, I'd say.
But at the very least, that's how I met my new crew.
That crew was the crew that saved me on my brink of death. Despise the lack of members on the crew- there were only 3 members- a trio. But even with that a crew that small, they 'healed me'. Or should I say... rebuilt me?
I'm not a normal human anymore, but maybe looking like a cyborg with a permanent overcoat is a better fate than going to the other side. Have to say, at least they gave me some rather snazzy tools and upgrades. Anyone would agree it's cool to have a laser cannon hidden underneath a coat. Even I am impressed.
My name's Masked Dalek, by the way. I don't have much to say about me at the moment. All I can say, I have good charisma.
Enough of who I am at the moment. I'd rather introduce my crew for now... after all, I don't like being in the spotlight alone.
The crew's de facto leader was 'Biddy' or as I prefer calling him 'Bid'. He said that may or may not be his real name... I dunno, he never told me his surname. But he's the technological genius. Yeah, you can easily tell he's exactly the guy who rebuilt me. The others helped a bit. Have to say, he's pretty young. The crew's older than him. He's like in his teenage years, while everyone else are in their late 20's. Of course, his experience with the corruption of the police department is minimal at best, but he thinks he's seen enough- his parents were killed and it would have been the same for him if he hadn't hid himself underneath a car.
Next was Ivy Kisaragi. If you just looked at her surname, you would assume she's half-Japanese, but as it turns out, she's Thai and 'Kisaragi' is a fake surname. Aged 29, she has 5 years of experience with the police department. She was a detective, but as she puts it: "Try working as a detective in this city and you'll die from people trying to poison you with your own forensic kit. Bonus points if you are female where sexism is inevitable". Other than that, I don't know much about her. I don't know if worse has happened to her and she's hiding it, but she seems fairly stable.
Last, but not least was Meepy Meepster. He's 4 years younger than Kisaragi, yet he can matches with her in term of experience. He was a dotting paleontology, worked part-time in the police department during the tough times there weren't fossils to dig up. But even the polices ain't giving him mercy despise being a mere part-timer. He was assaulted, but then saved by Kisaragi and Bid shortly after the 2 formed this little 'untainted' crew. His wounds weren't too bad like mine, so Bid apparently didn't have to rebuild him into a cyborg like he did with me. Have to say, despise being older than Bid, Meepster is into some children's stuff like cartoons. Can't blame him. I do like a few good cartoons myself...
Our crew is dedicated to cleaning up the grimes of crimes, but we're too small. We're overworked. We are like janitors trying to clean up a tower with million floors on our own. It's not a comfortable job, but someone have to do this.
I arrive at our office, which was tucked in alleyway. Lotsa 'street art' on the brick walls surrounding the office, so you would expect the inside to be dirty as hell, too...
Not the case, fortunately. The floor were sparkly clean, the walls were painted white, covering the dry and dull shade of gray concrete underneath. The office was well-lit unlike the rest of the city were you won't even find a working streetlamp hangin' around. They weren't any windows laying around though... otherwise the polices would have discovered our work and trust me, it wouldn't end too well.
"I'm here," I open the door with a crane arm from underneath my overcoat. I'd turn my head slightly, facing the blazing traffic on the road, making sure there ain't a soul of 'law enforcement' hangin' around. Would be disastrous if anyone were to notice.
"Well, glad you came..." Kisaragi says dryly before she would look at a digital clock on her work desk. "... even if you took longer than you should."
I chuckle. "It's such a shame Bid's upgrade didn't come with the ability to control the traffic."
"Whatever," she would change the topic immediately. Did my words sting like a syringe? "Anyway, sorry to trouble ya again, but you are going to have to drive to somewhere else to meet up with an old pal of mine."
"Pal, eh?"
Bid cuts in. "Kisaragi said his name is Time Torento Lesgo," he would pick up a piece of paper from Kisaragi's desk. "Apparently, Kisaragi wrote down his address and gave him a call. He says he wanted to join our crew... so we're asking you to go pick him up."
"Heh, well if Kisaragi knows him, he's trustworthy," I'd prepare to leave the office.
Meepster gets up from his desk. "Hang on," he would grabs his trench coat. "I'm gonna come, too." Rarely, Meep leaves the office unless he wants to head home.
"The little shut-in boy boy wants to tag along?" Kisaragi snarks, covering her mouth while chuckling to herself. "Should I expect a meteor to fall?"
"How dare youuuuu," he drags out the last word, playing along with Kisaragi's teasing. But his tone immediately changes. "Yeah, I'm tagging along... the guy Masked's gonna see is gonna be a good guy, I can tell... but we may never know if Dalek won't get shot on the way."
"He has a laser cannon," Bid mutters, having gone back to sitting by his desk, reading a novel.
Meepster rolls his eyes. "Yeah, okay."
"So," Kisaragi says, her tone urgent. "Get to bringing Lesgo here. Our team need more than just 4 people, you well aware of that?" it sounds like she just wants to kick both of us out of her office.
"Yes, ma'am," I respond, my tone dry, before both I and Meepster turn to leave the office.
