It's 2040, and humanity is losing a massive war against an alien menace. This story highlights events occurring on an outpost on the Martian moon Phobos as a team of international forces fights off an advanced force to an invasion of Mars. The outcome of this battle will dictate the fate of the Mars colonies. The great commander of the Solar System was in charge of the troops. He was chosen after many battles because of his extensive knowledge of weaponry and his legendary problem solving skills. While the commander was plotting out his defence, a private named Flame made a particularly rude remark and was telling offensive stories about the commander to nearby troops. The commander pretended to ignore it, and remembered the only person it could be. Deciding to enjoy a bit of revenge while saving the world, the commander made a new plan....
The private was outfitted with jump jets and a defective carbine and ordered to be an advanced scout, reporting the positions of incoming enemies. Behind him was a squad of gunners ordered to destroy incoming enemies, but only after the scout had been killed.
Alien dropships approached soon from an alien frigate, and the scout relayed their positions, expecting them to be fired on. To his horror, the invaders simply exited their dropship. He tried to open fire, but nothing happened. One alien soldier decided to throw a melee weapon at him, a disc which cut into the private's stomach and expanded, cutting him in half, then exploding, leaving not a trace left of private Flame. The gunner squad opened fire, killing the alien soldiers from a concealed position. The attack continued rather uneventfully as humans drove off the invaders with minimal casualties. But the Solar commander had his revenge....
Moral of the story: Don't say anything THAT horrible about me, someday the world might be ending and it might be my choice whether to hand you a defective carbine.
